A key of a prison cell. The US military prison in Mannheim, initially housed in the castle, got its own building in 1962 on the Coleman barracks area. It became the largest of its kind in Europe. By 1976, three other military prisons in Europe were closed, making the Mannheim facility the only US Army prison in Europe after 1980.
